This weekend witnessed the SGRC 2016, starting on Friday 17th June when all the JSPC members who were to assist with the championship competed with the added presence of a few other shooters for whom the day was more convenient.
Rain for most of the day did not help, but this is Scotland. Saturday and Sunday fared better weather wise, so our weather may give some advantage to some competitors.
I wish to thank all those who attended the championship event, competitors coming from as far as Cumbria in the south to Aberdeen in the north.
Special thanks to the JSPC members who came to help staff the event over the three days especially to Norman and Bill from Gateshead, travelling over 200 miles each day. To Greg for his squadding work, having to take time out of his very busy business hours, and to Colin for administrative and printing duties. Everyone worked hard to make this a very successful and enjoyable weekend and we were pleased to see some new faces fom Bearsden Club who were suitably impressed at how far Gallery Rifle and Pistol competitions and standards have progressed.
As Colin pointed out, we have some of the best shooters in the world at these competitions which are not only for the elite, but for ALL shooters to come and test their skills and to share the enjoyment of the sport.
However, David has worked his ***** to produce the preliminary results which will remain open to challenge until 11:59pm on Thursday 23rd June before being forwarded to the NRA. So here are the scores on the doors:
The scores remained unchallenged so are now final.
Jonny Cormie was back on form and dominated the prizes with some very good shooting, but did not produce a new UK record as at first suspected.
JSPC members took a very respectable part in the prizes with Chris Douglas, Leslie Kong, Robert Tonner (Senior) and son Robert J all winning Champion medals in individual events. Robert J topped that by winning the aggregate Long Barrelled Pistol and Revolver Trophy to be awarded at Bisley at the Nationals in August.
Congratulations to all the winners, and the competitors for a very well contested weekend.
A reminder that the second part of the championship will be held at Drums Range, home of Aberdeen Full Bore Gun Club (AFBGC) on Sunday 7th August and will comprise the 1500 and Precision matches in both Centrefire and Smallbore.
Here are a few photos I managed to snatch over the weekend.
