Colin Oswald Award Competition: 21st July 2024

COLIN OSWALD AWARD

PRECISION RIFLE

To honour the memory of our erstwhile Chairman Colin Oswald, who did so much for the Joint Services Pistol Club, we announce the following competition:

Date:                           Sunday 21st July 2024, from 10am until 1pm

Targets            :                       PL8 (centres for the PL7)

Firearm:                      Any multi-shot rifle, chambered for .22LR

Sights:                                     Any (spotting scopes may also be used)

Shooting Position:     Standing, unsupported

Clothing:                     No clothing may be worn which will, in any manner, give the wearer artificial support. Slings or glove(s) are not permitted

Course of Fire:            25 metres

This event takes approximately 30 minutes to complete

It requires 20 rounds plus sighters

The maximum possible score is 200

Sighters:                     Unlimited shots in 10 minutes

Practice 1, 2:               10 shots in 10 minutes

Ties:                             Tie breaking rules shall be applied in the order listed below:

  1. By the greatest number of Xs in the event
  2. By the scores in each practice in the order 2, 1
  3. By the X count in each practice in the order 2, 1
  4. If a tie for first place exists after following the above rules, the tying competitors will shoot an additional practice, one shot at a time, where each shot will be scored and declared (via scope). This will be repeated until a winner is determined. The winning shooter is decided when one of the shooters manages a higher shot score than the other(s). For the purpose of this tie break rule, an X scores higher than a 10

Prizegiving:                 To take place on the range once a winner has been determined

Rationale:                   The timings, targets and number of practices have been selected to match an individual round for a precision rifle entry in the Cumbria League, a competition which Colin participated in and enjoyed for many years.

To encourage as many JSPC members as possible to participate, a .22LR multi-shot rifle, any sights, was chosen.

The above competition was arranged to remember Colin Oswald and his vast contribution to the club and generous assistance to many of us.

It was a pleasure to see so many of his club friends attend the competition, chosen because it was probably Colin’s favourite event.

Many thanks to David Rees (also a very keen Precision shooter) for organising, running and scoring the event.

The results were a fantastically close finish with Robert J Tonner winning on countback! Chris Douglas scored a tie-break maximum with equal X count, the deciding factor being the X count on card number two.
