JACK CRUICKSHANK MEMORIAL TROPHY 2014

The annual memorial event attracted only ten members and one probationer, but for those that did compete, the day was very fiercely battled and nerves played a large part in producing scores well below par for competitors.

For those that did not attend, I would like to remind them that the event is in memory of Jack Cruickshank who was a founder member of the JSPC and a very worthy Chairman. Under his guidance, JSPC became a club of great significance, holding many pistol events of international standard, attracting shooters from all over the UK, including Northern Ireland, and from other countries such as Norway for example.

Jack was a sheriff in Selkirk, and members were always warned that he would show no mercy should any of them appear before him.

Two of his favourite competitions were Police Pistol and Service Pistol B, which became TP1 and Multi Target after the handgun ban.

These are therefore the basis of the JC Memorial Trophy

It is perhaps fitting that these chosen competitions are also those selected by the NRA for the National Championships when the aggregates of these matches provide the winners.

With this background, I hope that members will show a bit more enthusiasm each year at this event.
