The NATIONALS. Bisley 29-30th August 2015 – Joint Services Pistol Club

SCOTLAND GALLERY RIFLE squad members who attended the prize awards 2015

The Home Countries Matches (perhaps better known as the Nationals) are arranged for the bank holiday weekend of 29-30th August and Scotland will again be facing teams from England and Wales.
Four teams have been chosen to represent Scotland, the winners being the top aggregates of Timed and Precision One (TP1) and Multi Target (MT).
There will be contests in Gallery Rifle Centrefire (GRCF), Smallbore (GRSB), Long Barelled Pistol (LBP) and Long Barelled Revolver (LBR).

After Scotland’s overwhelming success at Phoenix 2015, the other nations were eager to avenge their defeat.

The results were

Gallery Rifle Smallbore: WALES 1st, SCOTLAND 2nd, ENGLAND 3rd

Gallery Rifle Centrefire; WALES 1st, SCOTLAND 2nd, ENGLAND 3rd.

LONG BARELLED PISTOL: ENGLAND 1st, SCOTLAND 2nd (WALES did not enter)

LONG BARELLED REVOLVER: ENGLAND 1st, SCOTLAND 2nd (WALES did not enter)

Well done Scotland, you did us proud.

Hello Everyone,

The results of the Nationals are now on www.galleryrifle.com for all to see.

The short story is that we came away with 20 Gold, 12 Silver and 9 Bronze medals – plus 2 Individual aggregates and 1 British Champion!

The long story is that fifteen of the squad attended. Everyone enjoyed a full weekend’s shooting. The weather stayed reasonably settled. The full results speak for themselves. I avoided being last in anything by dropping some scorecards in the bin. Jonny and Norman are to be particularly congratulated for an embarrassing haul of medals and trophies – Jonny is British champion in 1500 Small Bore. Those of the Squad who were unable to attend missed a truly enjoyable experience.

The Scottish GR Championships were held at Colmsliehill and Aberdeen. We were a bit overwhelmed with entries and will likely run a weekend event next year. All the results may be found on the JSPC website

Shortly, as individual SPA members, you will be asked to vote on whether the SPA should join with other shooting associations in becoming part of Scottish Target Shooting. The rationale behind this proposal can be read in full on the STS website – though it is likely that it has been discussed at your own clubs. It is not the intention of the GR officials to influence your vote but our recommendation is that we should support the amalgamation. There are several reasons for this -‘Better to be inside the tent ………etc. ‘ Better to be in at the start, United we stand etc. In the end it’s up to each of us to read the proposal and vote accordingly.

It was a long journey, the M6 traffic being particularly unkind on the way down with Aberdeen travellers on the road for up to 13 hours (Ouch!!!). Was it worth it? Well, we keep going back year after year. It is our sport.
